Since the beginning of its papermaking activities, the Santa Maria Group has been self-sufficient in energy. Currently, this condition is guaranteed by the Salto Curucaca HEPP, the Salto São Pedro SHPP, and the Santa Maria Power Plant TPP, which have a generation potential of up to 44 MW / h. This is equivalent to the amount needed to supply a city with approximately 180 thousand inhabitants.
Santa Maria Energia executes its activities through two hydroelectric plants: the Salto São Pedro plant, located in the municipality of Pinhão, and the Curucaca plant, in Salto Curucaca, in the city of Guarapuava. In addition to these plants, it produces electricity through a Turbo Generator in an energy cogeneration system, located inside the Santa Maria plant. This turbo runs on steam, which in turn is produced through biomass.
