In order to maintain a high quality forest, the São Manoel Reforestation facility continuously invests in the genetic improvement of its forests. These are subjected to a strict quality control evaluation from the production of seedlings until their final cut. Its commercial forests amount to more than 12,000 hectares between Pinus taeda and Eucalyptus SP., spread out on several farms, within a radius of 100 km of its industrial plant, ensuring self-sufficiency. These areas are subject to strict norms of environmental control and preservation, generating a perfect harmony between native species and reforested areas.

The São Manoel Reforestation facility provides, through means of research and a Tree Nursery, seeds and seedlings of Pinus taeda. The seeds come from Clonal Orchard, with rigorous selection of superior trees, guaranteeing an excellent development in the field and a high yield of the forests. The seedlings go through a rigorous quality control and are only available after being audited, respecting the quality standards demanded by the market, such as height, neck diameter and well-added root system.
Our logs are produced within the Quality Standards of Improved Genetic Material and Forest Management. In order for the planting process to obtain better increment and forest quality, several factors are evaluated: soil, climate, and topography of the region. With this, the specific genetic material is inserted, making them more suitable for planting. The logs go through a process of quality evaluation in the field to guarantee efficiency and quality to the client, which are then destined to a multipurpose market, where any type of processing can be done.
One of our main values is Socio-environmental Responsibility so we prioritize the preservation of natural resources and all the wood produced in the areas of the São Manoel reforestation facility, which has the FSC® certificate for Forest Management (FSC-C133520). This reaffirms our commitment to the community and our clients, ensuring that our products are economically viable, socially beneficial, and environmentally adequate. The forestry sector has stood out strongly due to its economic viability in Brazil and in the world. Paraná, with one of the best soils in Brazil, has a favorable climate and temperature for good development of planted forests. Santa Maria, with more than 50 years of experience in forestry, paper and energy, is offering an investment opportunity for the rural owner. The Forest Partnership enables the farmer to diversify his property without investments and with excellent financial returns. The company has achieved excellent results in its forest business, through constant research, seedling production in the tree nursery, implementation, maintenance, and forest management.
This program consists of the implantation of afforestation or reforestation with common interests as well as common benefits between the rural owners of the region and the company. It is intended to stimulate small, medium, and large scale producers in reforestation, when soil and climate conditions are favorable. The initiative contributes to the local economic development, it makes the practice of environmental preservation possible and provides another source of income for the rural producer in the field.
In this partnership, the rural owner offers all or part of his property and the company carries out the necessary services of implantation, maintenance, and management of the forest until the moment of cutting.
Rural producers located within a radius of up to 150 km away from the industrial unit of Santa Maria, which is located in the Municipality of Guarapuava – Paraná, Brazil.

The São Manoel Reforestation Facility believes that research is of fundamental importance for the acquisition of logs with high added value and also for the interests of our clients. It was with this thought that in the early 2000s, a Genetic Improvement program was developed in partnership with the Federal University of Paraná. The main goals of this program were: greater individual volume, stem straightness, reduction of conicity of trees, and growth in a shorter period of time due to the use of wood for more noble purposes and, consequently, with greater financial returns. With the development of more and more advanced technology, we offer seeds of clonal orchards and seedlings of high quality, guaranteeing excellent effectiveness in the field. In addition, progeny tests and new sources were deployed, in search of more adequate genetic material for our environmental conditions and the continuous improvement of our genetic base. As a result of this program, we reached self-sufficiency in the production of Taeda Pinus seeds and the production surplus became available for commercialization. In addition, the company is developing research in the field of forestry, testing new silvicultural products and techniques.
The São Manoel Reforestation Facility has its own nursery of Pinus Taeda seedlings. The space works through automated irrigation and fertigation processes. The production goes through a strict quality control process, in which the seedlings are only available for planting after being audited, respecting the quality standards demanded by the market, such as height, neck diameter, and a well aggregated root system. The work carried out by the Forest Research, together with this quality control, guarantees an excellent development in the field, and high efficiency in our forests.
The company has a Geographic Information System (GIS) that allows for a composition of the use of the company’s farmlands, serving as a basis for the planning and execution of the implantation, maintenance, harvest, licensing, and other forestry activities.
In order for the logs to reach customers in optimum conditions, according to their specifications, the São Manoel reforestadora has high technology equipment that performs the forest harvest semi-mechanized. With these equipment the Forest Harvest has numerous advantages, which stand out: speed, efficiency, greater productivity and quality assurance of the product from the cut to the delivery to the customer.
It starts with the Feller Buncher machine that knocks down the tree, softening its fall avoiding any fractures or rupture of internal fibers. After the cut and the fall, it’s the Skidder’s turn, which drags the trees to the shipyard. In the next phase, the processing of logs begins, carried out by the Harvester, which is responsible for dismantling and cutting the trees according to the client’s specifications. With the logs cut and separated in the requested patterns, the logger loads the product from the shipyard to the truck.
Forestry is the science that studies and treats forest cultivation correctly. This activity is responsible for maintaining forests with quality, low cost, and higher productivity, generating a cycle of production that does not harm the environment. For this activity, the company counts on its own as well as outsourced teams, using manual and semi-mechanized methods, aiming to obtain the best use and maintenance of the forests in respect to ecological, scientific, economic, and social interests.
